Sex

Hello Judy - I need to ask you how safe is it to have sex during a pregnancy? Sally, Phillipines

Hello Sally
It is absolutely fine to have sex if your pregnancy is normal.  If you have problems such as vaginal spotting, cramping, placenta praevia or cervical weakness - you may need to stop having intercourse until the doctor gives you the go-aheadStay affectionately connected to your partner with kisses and cuddles.  I hasten to add that at the very end of your pregnancy when you may feel most uncomfortable and uninterested in sexual activity, having sex can actually herald the onset of labor!  (Great if you are over your due date or just tired of being pregnant "forever").
All the best
Judy

Dear Judy - since my baby was born seven months ago, I have found that I am totally disinterested in having sex.  Is there something wrong with me?  Have I changed forever?" - Claudette, Canada

Dear Claudette
You may rest assured that what you are going through is totally normal for most new mothers.  There is nothing wrong with you.  You may just be exhausted from all the baby care.  You may feel as if your body is being swallowed alive by all the demands being placed on it.  Use every channel available to you to ensure you get enough rest - help from family, friends - now is the time to accept all offers of assistance.  As you feel more rested, you will probably find that your sexual interests will return.  You have not changed forever.  Read the book "The Next Nine Months" - you will find it happily enlightening.
Enjoy your baby and your body!

Judy
